A little while back, Jennifer and I had the privilege to photograph Richard and Kathy’s Wedding. They had both, the ceremony and reception at the Historical Society. I’ve been inside their building before and knew it was a beautiful space, but I didn’t know how well the space could work for a wedding. It was amazing!!! They ended up having a cabaret style set-up, since the rain pushed us inside:( But still, it didn’t hold down any excitement for the day.
Kathy was looking gorgeous!!!
Her Mother couldn’t get over how amazing her hair looked!

Richard is great to be around… very genuine, but always looking to make a joke to lighten up any situation.

This is right before they met for the first time (that day of course… Kathy wasn’t a mail ordered bride) the lighting and simple composition were perfect. I had to take advantage!

JOY! there’s no better word for their expressions.

Jennifer found this light.

Kathy and Richard had a cocktail party before the ceremony (something I’d never seen before). All of the guest got to mingle before the ceremony. Nice call! Kathy and Richard’s nieces and nephews were running all over the place… Jennifer and I couldn’t move fast enough to catch all of the fun! But we got a few good shots of them.

There were many special touches during the day that made the ceremony and reception very personal. My favorite were the favors for the guests. Or lack there of. Instead of getting a small trinket for everyone that might get thrown away or forgotten about, Richard and Kathy made a very generous donation to the local humane society. If you remember from their engagement post, they actually met at a dog park. What better way to spread love then to give back to what brought them together!

I spent most of the ceremony on the second floor mezzanine. It was a great angle during the ceremony. This shot was a panning photo! You can make the exposure a little longer in the camera and then pan with the subject that is moving. Everything else is a blur!!! It’s one of those shots that you never really know if it’s going to turn out. And I’m always so happy when it does:)

Check out the ants on the cake. Isn’t that awesome. I love when couples throw something in the celebration that catches everyone off guard.

Southside Jazzers (Steve @ (317) 882-7230) were rockin’ all night. They even did an awesome cover of “Take me as I Am” for the first dance.

How about the view from the 4th floor!!! Ohhhh Yeahhhhh!

And then the carriage send off…

Thank you two sooooooo much. We had a great time and still think you had the BEST reception food ever!!! Click here to view the rest of the photos.
I’m so excited to be able to use the title “International Award Winning Photographer” (it really sounds good, don’t it!). I recently placed in a competition open to wedding photojournalists around the world. This is a really big deal to me, and something I’ve been looking forward to entering for a long time. Check out the site (www.wpja.com) and all of the other great images produced by wedding photographers. Mine is in the “Details (found)” section. And it’s shown below…
It’s a detail of Diane Shaver’s necklace. I took if from a sharp angle and had a really low focal length (that’s why everything else looks so blurry ) in an attempt to focus all of the attention on the pendant.

I have to give so much credit to Diane and her amazing family for putting together her wedding and allowing me to take part. If you don’t remember the post about their wedding, then let me remind you. Diane and Sam were a super sweet couple that also happened to be amazingly photogenic. They put there full trust in me and my photography and were so willing and ready to do whatever I asked. Their celebration will go down as one of the best weddings of ‘08.
Well, it was back to Terre Haute this past weekend (I have to admit, I miss it sometimes). Beth Anne and Carl are getting married this Sept. in downtown Terre Haute at the Indiana Theater. Jennifer and I are extremely excited about this wedding. The Theater is such a unique place for a wedding (you’ll get a small taste of what it looks like from this post) and the surrounding areas will make for some great backdrops during portrait time. Not to mention, Beth Anne and Carl are an awesome couple. I had such a good time with them this weekend. They were smiling through the whole shoot, but were more then willing to get close and serious when the time was right. So enjoy the photos and let me know what you think!!!

Here’s that little taste of the Indiana Theater. And this is just the entrance… you should see the lobby. Man I can’t wait until Sept.

Beth Anne lookin’ all saucy!!! and Carl checking her out.

After we were finished with down town we went to a golf course near there house. They’re both really into golf, so I had them “play a hole” (they really just teed off and putted). I swear I have some photos of them actually playing, but these next few were just my favorites out of the bunch.

Then I got to meet the another part of their family. BUDY!!! Budy was great to shoot and so playful. Look how happy he looks playing with them.

Beth Anne and Carl,
Thank you two so much. I had a great time on this shoot and am already looking forward to your big day. Click here to see the rest of your photos.
Thanks, Kurtis.
I know I say it too much, but I am so lucky and blessed to be able to do what I do. I had such a great time with Mike and Bridgette’s wedding. They are too sweet (and yes Mike, that means you too). You could see the excitement and joy in their faces throughout the entire day. It was one of those weddings that leave you smiling for the next week. They also added so many unique touches to their wedding that made it really personal. But enough talking… let’s get to the photos.
Bridgette got ready at David and Mary’s at Clay Terrace. It was the most amazing salon I’ve ever shot in (click on the link to check it out). Bridgette’s parents were really good friends with David and Mary… so Bridgette got a lot of personal attention there.

Meanwhile, Mike was getting ready at their new house. It’s really funny to see the difference in how the bride and groom get ready for weddings. Mike and the guys were just watching Old School and hanging out.

Like I said early, they were so happy about getting married. Here they are seeing each other for the first time on the wedding day. I’ve never seen a couple express this much joy during this moment… and I was loving it.

Details… Details… Details… that’s what makes a wedding personal. Check out these.
1. Sewn inside of her dress was a piece of her mom’s dress, a piece of her grandmother’s veil and a pendent that belonged to her grandmother.
2. The ring on her middle finger was one of two that was made from a piece of jewelry from another relative (her mother had the other ring on to match).
3. Brig’s ROCKIN’ A** Shoes!
4. A hanky that her mom embroidered with her nickname over the part that said Bride.
5. Her bouquet (all of their flowers were done by a family friend).
6. I know they didn’t exactly plan this one. But it’s Father Jim’s socks (he always wears fun colored socks with his sandals).
7. The Groom’s Cake that Bridgette surprised Mike with!
8. A drawing of them holding hands (I believe Brig drew this herself).

Since they met each other before the ceremony, we were able to do all of the photos then. Which means no waiting around afterward!!!

I couldn’t resist with that purple door.

It’s always nice when the officiant (in this case Father Jim) and the couple have a close relationship. I love this shot of them. Father Jim looks just as excited as she does.

The ceremony was at St. Barnabas on the Southside. Which is the same church that Jennifer and I attend.

One of the best “personal” touches that I thought they did was serving the wine during communion. Great idea you two! You could tell that it meant a lot to them.

Now that’s a kiss!

Hand’s down, the best exit I’ve ever seen.

Their Reception was at Pipers and if you’ve been following the blog, you know how we love, LOve, LOVE Pipers. They always do such a good job on the food and their Reception Hall is really nice.
The entrance into the reception was a great touch too. The dispersed pom-poms and had everyone line up to make a tunnel for their entrance. The wedding party threw small, plush footballs into the “crowd.” Mike even pulled a T. O. and took a pen out of his sock to sign the ball before he threw it. Very Nice.

On this next shot, try to just focus on their hands. Look how gentle and soft he’s putting the cake in while she’s slamming it in. I LOVE IT!!!

This party was made for dancing… and that’s just what they did!

Thank you two so much. You guys are awesome. Jennifer and I had a blast and can’t wait to hang out again. Click here to view the rest of the photos.

This is an addition to the last blog post! I wanted to post some of the shots that I got while shooting with Matthew Gordon. Did I mention that he shot our wedding… and did an amazing job!!! Anyway back to last weekend. The couple’s names were Monique (Mo for short) and Saul. They were a hot couple and up for anything… photography wise. Sicko! Where’s your head at???
Matt was workin’ that bouquet.

There flowers were amazing. I didn’t catch the florist’s name, but I’m sure Matt will have it on his blog soon.

I spent most of the day with Saul (While Matt was with Mo). He was very cool and super easy to work with.

Being the second shooter, I was able to look around more and it payed off. I found this great vantage point for the exit. Second Shooting Rocks!

This was my favorite detail of the day. This guy’s phone had flipped open without him knowing (his daughter may have accidentally kicked it) and his daughter was his wallpaper. I just love how a shot so closely cropped in can show so much!!!

Nothing like a lil’ off camera flash… through the veil.

Best air guitar ever!!!

This past weekend I had a great opportunity to “second shoot” with the amazing Matthew Gordon. It was my first time ever. I’ve always been the lead dog when shooting weddings… so it was a little hard starting out. I wasn’t sure how involved I was supposed to be. But I quickly forgot about that and just did my thing. It was really nice not having to set up any of the shots and just going around catching moments and details that would normally be to the right or left of my lens. It was a great experience working with Matt and seeing how another photographer goes about the day.
I plan on showing some of my highlights from the wedding, but haven’t gotten a chance to go through them yet. I’m still working on my 6-6-08 wedding (which was amazing), but I did get one photo from Matt that he or his assistant, Kim took. Matt will sometimes set up a “photo booth” so that all of the guest can come over and get their photos taken (while acting all crazy!). So while they were testing out the lights, Matt had me model. There are about 4 or 5 shots, but this one’s my favorite.

Hey Bobbi, beat that test photo! Ohhhhhhh!
