(That’s a drumroll in case you were wondering!) #1. That’s right, Phyllis Bowersock (yes, my mother) won the very first KBP photography challenge. That’s $50 at Galloway Photo in Terre Haute. Phyllis beat out the other four finalists by a small (and in her words “nerve-racking”) margin of votes. I looked in the rule book about the whole “can family win?” thing, and she did it fair and square, so I guess it works!?!
Congratulations Mom! (pictured in the red frame at the top!)

We need to thank all of the creative people who entered the contest. Thank you, thank you, thank you. There were a lot of good shots in there.
And for those who didn’t enter, don’t worry, your chance will be coming soon. We’re planning on having a contest each month. Something fun and different that gets you out and thinking. For the professional photographers, hopefully this will give you a chance to refresh your brain after it’s been fried looking at lightroom all day and for the amateur photographer, hopefully this gives you a chance to learn a little more about your camera and the lengths that you can take it.
Thanks again to everyone who entered the contest and voted for our finalists.
Have a wonderful day!
Kurtis.
“K” “I”… well you know the rest. And since they’re already in love, it’s on to the second part of this song… Marriage!!! Well, we’re almost there. There’s still 3 months until the Wedding. But that didn’t stop us from getting together and doing a little pre-partying!!! So, this past weekend we shot their engagement photos. And of course we always like to share our favorites… so here we go!
I wish we had a little “POW” sign to hold up in the corner of this shot!

We hung around the South side of downtown and found a ton of good scenery to play with.

So… quick question. How hot are Tara and Tyler? Seriously!!! Our job was obviously made very easy.

Downtown Indy has so many places for great photos!

One of my favorites.

This one kind of speaks for its self!!!

Comin’ in close for the next few.

Had to do a little bit of climbing for this angle.

Jen was tearing this shoot apart. And topped it off by ending with this shot!… I love my wife!!!

Tara and Tyler – Thanks again for making the trip over. We really enjoyed spending the time with you two and are looking forward to the Wedding… BIG TIME!
Thanks for stopping by. Have a wonderful day!!!
Kurtis.

The finalists need your votes… so bring them on!!!
Thanks for stopping by!

So make sure you take the time today to thank someone that serves in our country’s armed forces, and remember those who have fallen in the fight of our continued freedom.
We’ve had an amazing weekend leading up to this day. It’s been filled with landscaping, an amazing downtown memorial service, wonderful food, music and wine, an awesome engagement shoot + bazbeaux, a great race, and lots of family and friends. Could it get much better!?!
On Saturday, we went to the 500 festival parade! Which was a lot of fun!!!

Some of our favorite people went to the parade… THE PANGANS!!!

There were a lot of stars in the parade. The biggest (literally) was Sponge Bob!

Mary Lynn (Chloe from “24″).

Melora (Jan Levinson from “The Office”).

Our favorite TV personality in the parade, Kate (Meredith from “The Office”).

Jen’s step father, Jim, drove Tony Kanaan.

And Connie, Jen’s Mother, got to drive Dario Franchitti and… ASHLEY JUDD!!!

And on the pole – Helio Castroneves, yesterday’s race winner!

NOW FOR THE OUT-TAKES! These next few pictures are our parade “bloopers.” And we thought that coming up with the captions for these photos could be a lot of fun!!!
Jen – “Easy, lemon squeezy.”
Kurtis – “Leap frog is always more exciting on motorcycles!”

Jen – “Smells like Freedom!”
Kurtis – “The first ever scratch and sniff flag… blueberry, my favorite!”

Jen – “Quick, the marching band is coming!”
Kurtis – Mayor Ballard (shown in Green) – “This is not what I meant by ‘Cleaning up the City’.” Governor Daniels (shown in yellow) “You’re not s*!#(shown in mustard-yellowish orange)in’ me!”

Jen – “Pervert below.”
Kurtis – “I found him!!!… sneaky camera man!”

Thanks for stopping by.

-voting for the photo contest is still open below.
So we have the top 5 picked and the rest is up to you! We’re really trying to break American Idol’s last record for votes, so over 100 million… or not really ’cause I don’t want to tally all of that! Anyway, here’s how it works. View over all 5 finalist’s photos. There’ll be a number corresponding with each entry. Remember that number and go to the comment area on the blog (right under the title). This is where you’ll cast your vote. Leave a comment with the number of the entry that you liked the best. You can only vote for one picture and you can only vote once. You do have to enter in your email, but don’t worry I won’t send you a bunch of spam or sell it. This is just so we know that you’re only voting once. If you leave two numbers in the comment, I’ll have to take the first one and count it towards your vote.
Contestants – feel free to campaign in your own way to get your votes.
Here’s your finalists! (in no particular order)
1. I really like this one for a few reasons. One, just so you know, the photographer is in this photo, not just a picture of her, she is actually in the photo. That’s one thing that made this one so fun. Plus, she had several other items in the photo that have personal meaning to her. This is something I thought more people would do.

2. I really enjoy this diptych. The juxtaposition of the two images makes this piece very surreal. It reminds me of a dream sequence. And since there wasn’t any altering (blending/cloning) of the photos, it was eligible. Nicely done!

3. This photo caught my attention not only because it displayed more then just the person (it displays a deep interest of the person too), but also because it pushed the boundary of what the rules were for this contest. The effect shown in this photo was actually done on camera and therefore is eligible.

4. This photo caught my attention right away. I love how it looks so much like a painting. The use of colored light really distorted the image giving it a wonderful affect. Well done!

5. Any Mac user would appreciate this image. But the photo goes further then that. The contestant has been an Apple lover for a very long time. So it’s a very nice personal touch. I even enjoy the angle it was taken at. Really nice job!

So there are your finalists. Please vote in the comment section right under the title of this post.
Thanks again, and the voting begins right now!!!
We have a lot of really good friends in Fort Wayne that we like to photograph… a lot!!! One such group is the Reiths. Kari and Chris live just north of Fort Wayne and have two adorable boys. Their youngest, Alex, turned one recently, so we had to get some shots to document this special time in his life.
You’ve probably seen him on the blog before, but he’s grown quite a bit since the last time!

And just so you know, we didn’t pose a single shot of Alex. He roamed around… just being himself.

Honestly! we did not set this up! But how much does this look like a classic senior pose!!!

We had to get some of Ethan too! Seriously, look how adorable he is.

Chris was away on biz, but we still took a group shot. Kari thought he might like this. I can definitely see this on Chris’ desk!!!

Kari had to take the place of Chris while he was gone, so that meant a lot of wrestling (which she normally tries to avoid). Look at Alex in the background gearing up for his run at Mom.

Alex was happiest after having his NUK!

It’s time to close the door on this shoot!

Thanks again Kari for having us over. We always enjoy seeing you all. Talk to you soon!
Kurt and Jen.
